Dr. John B. Miller
I am a Birmingham native. I attended Birmingham-Southern College where I obtained a B.S. degree. The next stop was the University of Alabama School of Dentistry at the U.A.B. campus where a D.M.D. (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree was earned. During these four years I realized that I enjoyed periodontics and surgery more than doing crowns, bridges, and dentures. (It is actually more like I could do a better job with surgery than the difficult crowns, bridges, and dentures that your general dentist does
.). Therefore, I elected to apply to periodontal residency programs with an emphasis on going to a top program.. As luck would have it, one of the most highly rated programs in North America was at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (one of the prettiest cities that I have ever seen). I was fortunate enough to be accepted at U.B.C. for specialty training. Two years later, a diploma in periodontology was added to my resume.
Being an Alabama native, I was beginning to get homesick for southern accents, bass fishing, and bird hunting. (As you get to know me, you will find that I get a little carried away with the fishing). I therefore began a search for locations in Alabama that needed a periodontist. Once again someone was looking after me and guided me to Dothan. I bought Dr. Bert Warrens practice in 1989 and we have been going strong ever since.
I am a Rotarian and am involved with the Wiregrass Childrens home. I share my life with my wife Rona who shares my passion for the outdoors.
